No Better Time than Now to Save

As I was driving on the highway I saw a billboard with the words “No better time than now to save”. It was an advertisement for something, and I honestly could not tell you for what. But it did catch my eye, because I thought it was a great message for the church. As a selfish sinner I could look at that message and wonder what I could possibly purchase that would be at an incredible discount. My greed could drive me to conclude that I would actually be saving myself money by buying something cheaper than usual.

If I look at that sign through the eyes of Christ, I see a message to a sinful world. “I lift up my eyes to the hills (billboard)- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2 The “help” that comes from the Lord is much better than a discount on a purchase for some material gain. The “help” is in the form of a Savior, Jesus Christ, who died for the sins of the world. He died for all people. You don’t have to be a member of Sam’s Club to get in on this savings. What a great gift!

Christ spent thirty-three years on earth showing by example how to save. After his ascension, he left the job to us. Our job is to point people to the one who saved us. We don’t know when he will call us individually home, and we don’t know when he will return. But we do know that there is “no better time than now to save”.

(kinda funny that after I wrote this I had to “save” it on the computer)
