I Can See Clearly Now

As I was teaching a lesson one day, I was having students go to the chalkboard and write. I noticed that for some students, writing on a chalkboard is something that takes a little practice. It is just not quite the same as writing with paper and pencil. I had felt that I was patient with my students, for the most part, until I noticed that the consistent problem that they all seemed to have was the inability to press hard enough with the chalk. When I got disgusted and pointed this out, and asked, “How hard is it to press a little harder with the chalk?” they all looked at me with confusion and stated that they saw no problem with how people were writing on the board. They then told me I needed to get my eyes checked. So I did. I found out that I needed glasses.

When we think that the way that we see things is the way the rest of the world sees things we get in trouble…and many times stop listening. Mark 10:22ff says, “Then he (Jesus) turned to his disciples and said privately, ‘Blessed are the eyes that see what you see’.” The disciples saw Christ. Christ revealed himself to them in the flesh. Today, Christ reveals himself to us in the Bible. Those who think they know Christ, but really do not know the Bible very well at all, are not seeing the chalkboard clearly, and may be missing some critical information! Our life as Christians is a constant process of bringing into focus the things of God rather than the things of men. Through the study of God’s Word, He reveals himself to us so that we might see more clearly. We continue to correct our vision and refocus until that day when Christ comes again in all His glory and restores to us perfect vision.
