Devotion

How's Your Pitch

m by any means to be gifted musically. But I learned something recently that I thought was interesting. And obviously, I felt could be used as a devotion.

A person that had gone in to have some music recorded was told that if you sing while sitting in a slumped over position, your tone will be flat. Adversely, if you sing while in heels, you will be sharp. Faith lesson?

Sometimes we take the gifts and talents God has given us and we bury them in feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. We suppress the gifts and the willingness to share them. We cheat God of our time, our gifts, and our money. Therefore the message we so called Christians are giving to the world is flat. It is not harmonious with God’s Word and teachings and does not reflect his love. It says, “What the world thinks is what matters most, so don’t embarrass yourself with truly living your faith.”

Others take a tone that is sharp. They stand on their heels and gloat in how much time they spend at church, how many church groups they are involved in, and how much money they give to the church every Sunday. They go through the motions, but their hearts are evil. They too are off key.

The key to perfect pitch is in our harmony with Christ. Celebrating the gifts and talents that God has given us to the honor and glory of Christ is sweet music to everyone’s ears, including God’s. Our time, talents, and treasure are not used to GAIN God’s pleasure, nor are they used to gain the pleasure or acceptance of our fellow man. They are used IN RESPONSE to what God has done for us through his son Jesus.
