God's Word

How many different times have you been able to say something, to give a command, and see immediate results? Maybe you can tell your dog to sit and he automatically does. Maybe you can tell your children to pick up the toys, and they obey. Maybe you have one of those expensive homes where you can tell the lights to come on and they do. Maybe you are the boss and your employees respond immediately to your requests. The latest cell phones have "voice activation" where you say a name and your phone automatically calls that person.

What would our world be like if we were able to say it, and then watch it come to be? To have that power would be awesome. And that is what our God is. Psalm 33:4-9 speaks of God's creative Word. God speaks, and things happen. When God speaks the words to make mountains, then mountains are made. His power in his Word is effortless, and yet includes the entire universe...from the greatest of stars to the tiniest of cells.

In God's Word there is power. More often than not, our free will neglects this power and chooses to follow the empty direction and words of the world. This creates confusion and a lost sense of purpose. Reading the Bible, searching the scriptures, daily devotions, prayer time, and talking about our faith are things that become "Sunday School answers" but are not reality. When we ignore and avoid God's Word, we neglect his power.
