What's in your Benefit Package?
Psalm 103: 2 Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all
his benefits--
As people seek employment opportunities these
days, benefit packages are looked at closely, and decisions
are made based on who can offer the best benefits. Health care
for the worker and the family, bonus incentives, opportunities
to progress in the company, signing bonuses, retirement plans,
accident insurance, etc., etc., are a few of the examples that
companies can offer to entice future employees.
In Psalm 103, David is asking God's people to
remember the benefit package that He has put together for us.
He asks us to invest body, heart, soul, mind, spirit, and all
our being in recognizing God for His great benefits. These benefits
include a pardon of sins, cured sicknesses, and rescue from
danger. Through Christ's death and resurrection, we are not
only rescued from death and ruin, but receive the benefits of
true happiness with honor, pleasure, and long life. These benefits
include pulling us out of the pit, and placing a crown of love
and compassion upon our heads. These benefits include allowing
us to return to the carefree days of our youth where decay cannot
set in, and the stresses and worries of adulthood cannot weigh
down.
There is no greater benefit package than what
our heavenly father has put together for us.
